Carphone Warehouse Eco Charger cuts power costs

Device cuts electricity once handset is charged

The Carphone Warehouse has launched the Eco Charger - a mobile phone charging device that automatically stops consuming electricity when the phone is fully charged or the handset is disconnected.

According to the retailer, the Eco Charger could save the UK as much as 217 million kWh of electricity per year, which is the same as the yearly electricity usage of 66,000 homes.

"Increasingly, concern over global climate change is becoming top of everyone's agenda, and that's why I'm thrilled that we're now able to offer a device that will not only will save our customers money, but help them to be energy efficient too," said Andrew Harrison, spokesperson for The Carphone Warehouse.

The charger is compatible with a number of Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung handsets and will be available from March. The Eco Charger costs £22.99.
