HTC announces Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates

Upgrades coming to the HTC One X, One XL and One S smartphones

HTC has announced that several of its smartphones will receive the latest Google Android 4.1 update, also known as Jelly Bean.

The company is yet to reveal exactly when Jelly Bean will arrive, but has encouraged owners to 'stay tuned' for further updates on device upgrades and release timings. Hopefully owners won't have much of a wait, however, as Google started rolling out the software from mid-July. See also: Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) review.


HTC said: “We know HTC fans are excited to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android. At this point in time, we can confirm that we have plans to upgrade our HTC One X, HTC One XL and HTC One S to Jelly Bean.”

The upgrade is already available for the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung's SIM-free smartphone. See also: Google Nexus 7 review.

Jelly Bean's arrival on the Nexus earlier this month provided the mobile with a slicker interface, improved performance and added features to the camera application.

The handset's approaching update will also feature access to Google Now, a competitor to the iPhone's Siri which aims to improve the search experience for users.
