Google developing gaming hub for Android

Taking a leaf from Apple's book

Google is reportedly creating a gaming hub for Android smartphones and tablets.

The software will be similar to Apple's Game Center found on iPhone and iPad and aim to making gaming more social on its mobile operating system. The yet to be named gaming hub will included features such as achievements and leader boards.

"They are starting to really understand all of the needs and wants to make a game really successful," an industry source close to developers told Business Insider. "As recently as even a year ago, that really wasn't part of their institutional DNA, But I think they're getting there."

It's unclear whether the software would integrate the Google+ social network, but it's likely since the firm likes to combine its services together where possible.

Android developers can opt to use software such as OpenFeint within games but Google is realising the importance of having a native client, the source said.

Google is also looking to streamline the payment system within the Google Play Store, formally the Android Market. Business Insider said the firm is looking to make it as smooth as buying a game in the Apple App Store.
