Sony has formally announced an end to production and shipments for the PSP Go, reports Andriasang. This confirms rumors from retail sources.

Future sales for the system will be limited to current stock, while SCEJ has attached 'shipment ended' notices to the listings for the PSP Go on The product has also disappeared from the index pages of Sony's online shop.

Sony will still be supporting the PSP-3000, and said that "it is a very exciting time for PlayStation portable devices. Before the end of the year we are launching NGP... which we believe will revolutionise portable gaming. In the meantime, the current generation of PSPs continue to be in demand, especially since the introduction of our value for money Essentials range of games, and we will continue to meet that demand."

Retailers who were cut out of the software supply chain due to the Go's reliance on digital distribution probably won't miss it. And Sony may wish to forget the poor thing ever existed.
