Sony launched a new site that allows gamers to see which PlayStation 2 titles are compatible with the new PlayStation 3 console ahead of schedule yesterday.
The site contains a portfolio of PS2 titles which will be playable on the PS3 and available in PAL territories, including the UK. A status bar for each title is also displayed, indicating that there are either no known issues, minor issues or noticeable issues when played on the PS3.
The site advises that for the best experience when playing PS2 titles, USB peripherals should avoid being connected to your PS3, full-motion video sequences of extremely high-quality should be skipped and the use of 60Hz and network modes should be avoided.
The latest firmware upgrade will need to be installed to play the PS2 titles. This upgrade will be available at launch from midnight on 22 March from the PlayStation site or PlayStation Network.
David Reeves, president of Sony said that the company has been working overtime to succeed in delivering a significant number of playable PS2 titles for the European launch. “We will be adding additional titles to this list in future firmware upgrades…but in the future our resources will be increasingly focused on developing new services and entertainment features exclusively for PS3”, he said.
