Sony has made the official announcement that their new portable gaming platform, the PlayStation Vita, will be available in the United States on February 22, 2012. The announcement was made by SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton at the Web 2.0 Summit 2011 held in San Francisco, California. The successor to Sony's PSP platform will be sold at two price points: $249 for the Wi-Fi only model, and $299 for the Wi-Fi + 3G model.

In Japan, the PS Vita will be available on December 17, 2011.
