Nintendo’s Wii was the most popular next-gen games console in the US in March selling 259,000 units, results from market research firm NPD show.
The news will not be welcomed by Sony, who has seen slow sales for its newest product PS3 (PlayStation 3) and announced job cuts within its game division. During March US sales figures for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 were 199,000, compared to PS3’s unit sales of 130,000.
Sales figures looked similar in comparison for handheld consoles, with Nintendo’s DS seeing figures of 508,000 during March and Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) achieving 180,000. However figures were not poor all-round for Sony, with its PS2 emerging as the best-selling console overall, with 280,000 units sold in March.
