PS3 update adds support for original PlayStation

Version 1.70 available from PlayStation Store

Sony has released a PlayStation 3 (PS3) update allowing PS3 owners to download and play software from the original PlayStation (PS1) on the new console. Downloadable PS1 software compatible with the PS3 will be available soon from the PlayStation Store.

Other new features in the PS3 version 1.70 update include the ability to use the force feedback function of some PS2 accessories. PS3 gamers will also be able to use vibration accessories, thanks to rumble support, that were previously available only for earlier versions of the console.

PS3 software can be updated using the console’s System Update feature, a PC or update data included on a game disc.

Sony recommends that you create the necessary network settings for the PS3 before performing a system update and should refer to the PS3 software user's guide.

A PSP firmware 3.40 update is also available via Network Update. This includes expanded support and improved game performance for PlayStation Network titles and allows information displayed in Certificate Utility to be checked by selecting the icon of the game you want and then using the options menu. To download the most recent update for the console run Network Update on your PSP.
