Cheap PS3 offers continue

PlayStation 3 discounts at UK retailers

UK retailers are offering cut-price PlayStation 3s (PS3s) just a month after the console launched.

WH Smith was offering the 60GB PS3 for £399.99 over the bank holiday weekend, while online retailers Play.com and Aria matched the price. According to reports online, the prices are still valid today, but it's unclear whether the discount will continue.

Despite being criticised by games fans for its high price, the PS3 was hyped by Sony as the fastest-selling console in its history after 165,000 units shipped in the first two days after its UK release. According to research from Chart Track, Microsoft shipped 71,000 Xbox 360s during its launch weekend, while Nintendo shipped 105,000 Wiis during the same period. Both the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii suffered from supply problems when they first went on sale in the UK, however.
