Vista users unable to run Second Life

Linden Lab works to resolve problems

Second Life players are experiencing problems when running the game in Windows Vista, which was launched on 30 January.

One such problem, reported by a gamer on secondlifeinsider.com, is that after installing Vista they received an error message relating to their video card and Second Life failed to load.

On 9 February, Steve Linden from the makers of Second Life Linden Lab, posted a response to queries about Vista support on the game’s official blog site.

He said that the alterations in the First Look Viewer, a test version of the Second Life client, are an “important precursor to any reasonable attempt for us to debug problems with running Second Life under Windows Vista”. He said that the changes are nearly ready for an official release, at which point the company will “start the process of ensuring Second Life runs under Vista”.

Engineers at Second Life hope to have the majority of these issues addressed in the next few weeks and “apologise to Windows Vista users that are currently unable to run Second Life”.
