Thousands queue for WoW launch

HMV packed for World of Warcraft release

More than 2,000 keen gamers queued at a London branch of HMV ahead of today’s release of The Burning Crusade, an extension pack for the WoW (World of Warcraft) online game.

The extension pack was in great demand in Germany, Sweden, France and North America too, as fans filled stores. The crowds of gamers, some of which were dressed as characters from WoW, were also attracted by the prospect of meeting the game's designers at the stores and the opportunity to get a special collector's edition.

On top of paying a monthly subscription fee to play WoW, the extension costs £29.99, which has sparked mixed reactions from members of the game's community.
