WoW reaches 8m users

Subscribers soar ahead of tomorrow's expansion

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that its subscription-based online role playing game, World of Warcraft, is now being played by more than eight million gamers worldwide.

WoW’s community has grown steadily since the game was released in 2004 and now includes more than two million players in North America, more than 1.5 million in Europe and more than 3.5 million in China.

And many of those players will be waiting impatiently for tomorrow’s release of the The Burning Crusade expansion pack. This update will offer additional game content and new features, allowing players to advance their characters up to level 70. The Burning Crusade will also include new challenges, monsters, magical weapons and abilities for all character classes. The expansion pack will be available for Windows 2000, XP and Macintosh at a suggested price of £17.99.
