Watch to expect at E3 2014

E3 is the biggest gaming event on the tech calendar and starts today, so here's what to expect from the big names at E3 2014 including Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo - New games and hardware galore. See: How to watch E3 2014 live.

Taking place in Los Angeles from 9 June, E3 2014 will be a week of gaming news and announcements which you won't want to miss. Here's what to expect from the show including hardware, games and more.

Microsoft: 9 June, 9:30am PDT

Microsoft will be kicking off E3 with the first press conference. It's Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing is called 'Xbox: Game On'. See also: Xbox One vs PS4 comparison.

"During the briefing, you'll be treated to everything from in-depth looks at previously announced games to trailers for our unannounced games coming in 2014 and beyond." said Microsoft's Larry Hryb, aka "Major Nelson" on his blog.

The success of the Xbox One is owed largely to Titanfall and Ryse: Son of Rome; and it's rumoured that a sequel will be announced at E3 2014. There are also rumours of Plants vs Zombies Online.

Probably more exciting for Xbox owners is Halo 5: Guardians which has been announced but we're pretty sure that Microsoft and 343 Industries will have more to say about it at the show. We may even get a look at some in-game footage.  We hope Hryb was talking about Halo when he said 'in-depth look'.

EA: 9 June, 12pm PDT

Heavyweight games maker, EA is next up on the press conference schedule at midday local time.

Games including The Sims 4, Dragon Age: Inquisition and EA Sports UFC have all been announced so expect to hear and see details on these. However, there's the possibility of the firm revealing a new Mass Effect title (Mass Effect 4).

Fans will be excited to know that the next instalment of Battlefield will be announced at E3. It's called Battlefield Hardline

Ubisoft: 9 June, 3pm PDT

Sandwiched in the middle of the schedule and after launching Watch_Dogs, is one of the only firm's to actually give some details on what it will be talking about and showing off at E3.

For starters, Ubisoft will be revealing Assasin's Creed Unity which it says has been built from the ground up as a next-gen game. "Set during the French Revolution, Assassin’s Creed Unity unfolds during a time of unimaginable terror and unprecedented turbulence – the perfect backdrop for the ongoing battle between the Assassins and the Templars." said Ubisoft.

The Far Cry series has been extremely popular and E3 2014 will be the launch platform for Far Cry 4 which the firm says is even bigger and better than Far Cry 3. It will be set in the Himalayan region of Kyrat and in an 'entirely new era'. The game will include new weapons, vehicles, wildlife and more. Ubisoft claims Far Cry 4 will be the 'most immersive and expansive game in the series ever'.

Other titles which will be shown off at E3 2014 by Ubisoft include the open-world action-RPG The Division, action-driving game The Crew and Valiant Hearts: The Great War. Ubisoft has also promised 'special guests' for its press conference.

It's bad news for Nintendo fans, though, as Slashgear reports that Ubisoft will not be announcing any games for the Wii U or 3DS.

Sony:  9 June, 6pm PDT

Sony's will be the last press conference of the ones scheduled for Monday at E3 2014. Sony seems to have some big plans for E3 since the firm is streaming the event live to 40 movie theatres in the US.

In an interview with GotGame, Sony's head of hardware marketing, John Koller, said: "It's going to be a massive content year. We've talked publically that there’s a huge and significant amount of games coming this year to the PlayStation 4. We'll be showing a lot of those and it is going to be an exciting moment for many people. I can officially confirm that what is coming next is really spectacular. The types of games that are coming are absolutely fantastic. We’ve already talked about some of these already, but games like Destiny, which is the game from Bungie that is really going to be a show piece as to what makes the PlayStation 4 so special."

Sony Project Morpheus

"There’s a lot of innovation. That’s something that we really want to push. The PlayStation 4 is really the strong innovation engine for this category and this industry. There’s certainly a lot to talk about there. So E3 is going to be fun this year. This is going to be one of those, you know, years where we’re going to have a fun time showing new games to the world." added Koller.

Koller also said that fans should tune into E3 for details on Uncharted 4 for PS4 and there's also the possibility of Project Beast.

We expect Sony to talk about its services too including PlayStation Now and although there are rumours around a PS4 Slim this is a little more on the unlikely side of things. In terms of hardware, Sony is more likely to talk about its virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus (above).

Nintendo: 10 June, 9am PDT

Opting for a lower key style, Nintendo's E3 'Digital Event' takes place the follow day from its rivals. However, it will be no less interesting with the release of Mario Kart 8 boosting Wii U sales we all want to know what the Japanese firm's next move is.

It highly unlikely that we'll see any new hardware from Nintendo so all eyes and ears will be on the games which will be announced. Expect details on Super Smash Bros Wii U, Sonic Boom, Bayonetta 2 and the next instalment of Legend of Zelda.

Other than its Digital Event, Nintendo will be hosting Treehouse sessions throughout the show. "members of the Treehouse, Nintendo of America’s Product Development division, will be live-streaming a wide variety of game demos directly from the show floor." said Nintendo.

Treehouse Live will broadcast:
Tuesday, 10 June, 11:35 AM PT – 4:00pm PDT
Wednesday, 11 June, 9:15 AM PT – 6:00pm PDT
Thursday, 12 June, 9:30 AM PT – 5:00pm PDT

Nintendo E3 2014 Super Smash Bros

Fans of Super Smash Bros will be able to watch the first ever public tournament of the game involving 16 'highly-skilled' players. It will take place on 10 June at 4pm PDT and be live streamed on the E3 and Nintendo Twitch channels.

Furthermore, fans can even play the game at participating Best Buy stores before it's released between 11 June 9pm and 14 June 5pm - Smash-Fest @ Best Buy. The first 70 fans who pre-order the game at each event will get a collectible Super Smash Bros. gold coin.
