Sony PlayStation 4 pre-order deposit

Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 console has gone up for pre-order in the UK.

Despite not being fully announced yet – Sony has only shown the Dual Shock controller – Asda is offering consumers the chance to pre-order the PlayStation 4. Willing punters can put down a £20 deposit to reserve a unit when it is eventually launched. See alsoPS4 release date and specs confirmed.

Asda states that users will be sent a unique discount code which can be used when the PlayStation 4 goes on sale. Customers who use the code will be prioritised when the console is shipped. Pre-orders are limited to one per customer. See also: PS4 launching 'Christmas 2013' - full details.

"The current expected date of release made by Sony is Christmas 2013. Asda make no Guarantees that this is correct or will not change and Asda shall not be held responsible if Sony change or delay the release date of the Sony PlayStation 4 in the UK and or limit stock." said the supermarket.

Those who pay the £20 deposit will be notified by email of the release date when it is officially announced by Sony. See also: PS4 price in UK; how much will the PlayStation 4 cost?

Although customers who use the code will get priority over regular orders, the terms and conditions state that it will still a first come first served basis. "If stock is in short supply Asda will fulfil the order as soon as it has stock on this first come first served basis." it said.

Asda has made no attempt at guessing how much the console will actually cost when it goes on sale.

The PlayStation 4 will have an X86 CPU, 8GB of memory, a built-in hard drive and an AMD Radeon Graphics card. It will also have an Xbox Kinect style Eye camera. Confirmed games include Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, The Witness, Driveclub, Destiny and Watch Dogs.
