Star Trek: The Game set to land on April 26

The 2009 reboot of Star Trek by J. J. Abrams was generally well accepted when it came out, and Namco Bandai is getting ready to add to the new universe with its upcoming game.

Pencilled in for an April 26 launch in Australia, the Star Trek game is launching ahead of the next Star Trek instalment that is coming to theatres on May 17.

The game, which is coming for all major home consoles and PC, is based on a stand-alone storyline that continues the adventure Kirk and Spock as they work together to stop an enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.

Just as Kirk and Spock's cooperation drove the story of Star Trek on screen, Digital Extremes executive producer, Brian Miller, said it will form the core of the video game experience.

"Kirk is this brash cowboy character, whereas Spock is the exact opposite, and when you break down Star Trek to those elements, you had to make a co-op game," Miller said.

"There was no other game we could possibly make."

The two lead, as well as numerous other actors from the 2009 film, will reprise their roles in Star Trek: The Game by lending their voice and likeness.
