XBLA indie game Fez coming to new platforms in 2013

Fez, the indie game that took XBLA by storm some 9 months ago, may finally see a PC release.

Phil Fish, creator of the popular Xbox Live Arcade game Fez, has famously said that PCs are for spreadsheets and that Fez is a console game made for the couch and controller setup. It looked like a PC port for the awesome indie game would never happen. However, that thought may pass according to a recent blog post on the Polytron website. He writes:

2012 was crazy.

But what now?

2013 is going to be an interesting one, too.

For one, FEZ will finally be ported to other platforms.

Luckily, the logical step after creating a successful XBLA game is to port it to Steam on the PC, where oftentimes it becomes much more successful. Just go ask those Super Meat Boy folks.

Fish has been a polarizing figure in the indie game industry this last year, especially after finding some fame in Indie Game: The Movie, a terrific documentary that released in June of 2012 that focused on Fish's development of Fez, as well as the struggle of Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes to release Super Meat Boy.

Other than Fish's vague reference to releasing Fez on other platforms nothing else is known. Dates, prices and platforms are completely guesswork at this point, though since I missed Fez on Xbox 360 I won't hesitate to pick this up when it comes to a platform that is convenient to me (*cough* Steam *cough*). I really hope that Phish can eat his words, swallow his pride and push this awesome looking game to a nearby computer screen. Of course, with Steam's Big Picture mode it should still be simple to play the PC version of Fez on the couch with a controller.
