After rumours about a possible smaller version of the Nintendo Wii console, BestBuy has leaked the Wii Mini.

The advert on BestBuy says: "Introducing the Wii Mini! Coming on Dec 7, 2012"

However, clicking the link to pre-order merely takes you to the general Wii page with no mention of the Wii Mini whatsoever. Price and specifications are unknown so all we can go on at the moment is the image and the touted release date. Best Christmas gifts: 2012 Christmas gift guide

Ron Bertram, vice president and general manager at Nintendo Canada, said: "Wii Mini is a great gift for the holidays that brings everyone in the family together to play. Wii Mini has a mini price, but it’s all about big fun."

Nintendo said the Wii Mini will be able to play more than 1,400 disc-based Wii games and will support most accessories. It will come with red Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk controllers. GameCube support has been dropped.

On the important subject of launching outside of Canada, Nintendo said: "Wii Mini is available exclusively in Canada during the holiday season. No information is available about its potential availability in other territories in the future."
