Video: Prime Focus reveals work on Dredd 3D from concept boards to final VFX shots

Following our interview with Dredd 3D's VFX supervisor Jon Thum about how his team helped recreate Judge Dredd's home of Mega-City One, Prime Focus has released this video where Jon and the film's art director Neil Miller take us through how they developed the look of the film's VFX from concept boards to the final shots

The rendered city draws as much inspiration from the real-world slums of countries such as South Africa as it does from the dystopian sci-fi of the 2000AD strip.

"It was important to us to ground our visual effects in the real world," Jon told us, "so when South Africa became the most practical and cost effective shooting location, we started basing our Mega-City One concepts on parts of Johannesburg and Cape Town, and those concepts held true right through to the final shots on film."
