Valve may develop Apple gaming console

Apple CEO's trip to Valve could mean rumoured games console is becoming reality

Apple may be about to team up with Valve, the company behind online gaming platform Steam, to create a games console that will ship as part of the rumoured Apple television. Apple CEO Tim Cook has been spotted visiting the headquarters of Valve. As well as Steam the company publishes popular Mac games such as Half-Life and Portal.

In our feature predicting what Apple will do in 2012 we wrote about our theory that Apple's rumoured television will come with an Apple-branded game console with an interface that uses motion and touch control. According to Cult of Mac sources, this is indeed what the company is doing. (More Below)

Cult of Mac suggests that Tim Cook's visit to Valve hints that: "Apple could be considering Valve as a partner for its entrance into living room gaming."

Valve CEO Gabe Newell recently revealed that if Valve needed to create hardware they would "rather hardware people that are good at manufacturing and distributing hardware do that."

However, the report points to recent job listings for Valve that indicate that the company is working on a hardware project. The ad reveals: "For years, Valve has been all about writing software that provides great gameplay experiences. Now we're developing hardware to enhance those experiences, and you can be a key part of making that happen. Join our highly motivated team that's doing hardware design, prototyping, testing, and production across a wide range of platforms. We're not talking about me-too mice and gamepads here - help us invent whole new gaming experiences." http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/valve-software-seeks-engineers-to-work-on-mystery-hardware-project/

This new gaming experience is dubbed the Steam Box console, and it is thought that Valve would license to partners, perhaps, judging from Cook's interest in the company, the partner will be Apple.
