Where to buy the PlayStation Vita in the UK

The best-value deals on a new PlayStation Vita

Want to be one of the first to get your hands on a PlayStation Vita? Then look no further than our handy guide to the best deals

Sony's new handheld games console is an impressive piece of kit, and is sure to have gamers salivating at its dual touchscreens and 5-inch OLED screen. You can read our review of the Vita and also get answers to frequently asked questions, but here we'll show you where to find the best deals. See also PS4 release date, specs and rumour round-up.

There are two models: one with Wi-Fi and another with built-in 3G. You can buy the console on its own, bundled with games or with a special pre-order pack. The pack includes a pair of blue PlayStation headphones, a £5 discount voucher to use against one game in the PlayStation Store, early access to the quirky Frobisher Says! game plus a few Vita items for PlayStation Home.

If you order a bare Wi-Fi Vita from Game, you'll pay £230 (the standard price); the 3G version costs £280. However, we've scoured the web to find better deals – here are our top picks:

PlayStation Vita

1. PS Vita Wi-Fi with pre-order pack. Best price: £197 with free 3- to 5-day delivery from Adsa direct. Unfortunately, in-store collection isn't available.

2. PS Vita 3G with pre-order pack: Best price: £250 with free 3- to 5-day delivery from Zavvi Outlet on eBay.

3. Best games deal: Amazon. If you order a Vita Wi-Fi (£210) or 3G (£260) you get a free 8GB memory card (worth £28) and can add a game to you order for £15. Fifa 12 isn't included in the deal (it's around £40), but titles include Virtua Tennis 4, Rayman Origins and Lumines Electronic Symphony which would otherwise cost over £30 each. If you live near an HMV store, you can get either Uncharted or Fifa with the Vita Wi-Fi and the pre-order pack for £230, which will save around £10 on buying the game separately.

4. Best 3G tariff: Currently, Vodafone has the exclusive rights in the UK to sell the Vita with a data plan. For £279, you get a 3G Vita and a 4GB memory card. When you top up a pay-as-you-go SIM with £5, you also get WipEout 2048 free. Your £5 gives you a somewhat paltry 250MB of data which expires after 30 days. Vodafone's BuyBack scheme means you can trade in an old gaming device or phone to get money off your Vita. You'll have to visit a Vodafone store to buy a Vita and trade in old kit as you can't order online.

Of course, you don't have to buy a 3G Vita from Vodafone. If you'd prefer to supply your own SIM, one of the best deals is from Giffgaff. For £5 per month on a pay-as-you-go basis you get 500MB of data, or 1GB for £7.50. Giffgaff is a relatively new mobile provider, but it runs on O2's network so 3G coverage is good.
