XIII's Return Isn't a First-Person Shooter

Earlier this week, developer Anuman teased the existence of a new game in the XIII series for PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad. Today, the first screenshots of the game have emerged, and it looks markedly different from its predecessor.

The original game was a first person shooter that made use of visual onomatopoeia and cel-shading to create a highly distinctive comic-book look using polygonal graphics. It was an effective approach, and it made the game stand out in the crowd. It also helped that the game featured decent voice talent in the form of David Duchovny as the titular amnesiac, along with some fun, entertaining gameplay.

The new game, known as XIII: Lost Identity, appears to be an adventure/puzzle game, possibly incorporating elements of the popular casual "hidden object game" genre, and certainly appearing to include staple puzzles such as the much-sworn at "slide blocks around to make a picture" arrangement.

Lost Identity definitely looks to have the art style of the original comics in hand. Looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to find out specifics of gameplay, however.

XIII: Lost Identity is due out for PC, Mac, iPhone and iPad in November.
