News about the third game in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series

Developers Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, Raven Software have teamed up to make the eagerly anticipated third game in the Modern Warfare series.

Like all of the Call of Duty games, Modern Warfare 3 will be a first person shooter. The major changes that Infintiy Ward are making to the game is that Modern Warfare 3 will run at the much higher rate of 60 frames per second, to give its gameplay an edge over its competitors.

As you'd imagine with a Call of Duty game, they are placing a lot of emphasis on the development of the multiplayer side of the game with two important new features. First of all they are introducing an improved version of the survival mode game first seen in Call of Duty: World at War Nazi Zombie mode, where two players are attacked by constant streams of enemy soldiers - the new features sees enemy soldiers spawn from more tactical positions unlike the original game mode where they spawned from the same spot each time. The second feature that Call of Duty have tweaked is removing the perk advantage in multiplayer mode to ensure that all gamers compete on a level playing surface.

Modern Warfare 3 sees the return of  Captain John "Soap" MacTavish, former SAS Captain John Price and Russian informant Nikolai, where they continue to defend the USA from the Russian Federation invasion. There are several campaign locations including Somalia, Sierra Leone, Moscow and Dubai.

The developers are keeping very tightlipped about any more details, so that's about all there is know about Modern Warfare 3.

Here are the latest screenshots to whet your appetite.
