Ubisoft Launching Uplay Passport with Driver San Francisco

The war against pre-owned games continues: Ubisoft is the latest publisher to launch a $10 online pass for access to "exclusive bonus content" as well as online features.

Uplay Passport will be launching with Driver San Francisco on August 30. Like similar services from EA and THQ, new copies of Ubisoft games will include a one-time activation code that provides access to certain content as well as the game's online modes. New Uplay Passports can be purchased from PSN and the Xbox Live Marketplace for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points -- and presumably directly from Ubisoft for PC games, though the company didn't mention the PC platform at all when announcing the service.

Ubisoft says that the Passport system will be used on "many of [its] popular core games" and these games will be identified by a logo on the back of the box, starting with Driver.

Interestingly, Ubisoft is trying to spin this as "enhancing" games with the Passport, rather than locking off content from pre-owned customers. What's your take on this? Let us know in the comments.
