According to the manual for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, it's impossible for a player to reset their save data. As such, if you beat the game and want to pass it on to a friend or trade it in, whoever plays it next will be stuck with your save data.
There has been speculation that this feature was added (or, rather, taken away) as a means of combating the pre-owned market. It's been working in Japan, certainly -- Tiny Cartridge reports that some Japanese shops are paying as low as $6 for pre-played copies.
Speaking with Eurogamer this morning, Capcom said that the move would not affect the game's trade-in value -- at least not in the UK.
"The game's value at second-hand in the UK is not affected by whether or not the game can have its data reset," the spokesperson said. "Customers in the UK will not experience a reduced second-hand value should they wish to trade in their purchase."
Of course, trade-in values aren't set by Capcom, they're set by retailers...
