Professor Layton Comes to Mobile Phones

The next Professor Layton game will take the puzzle-solving sleuth in a new direction entirely: mobile phones. Developer Level-5 has teamed up with DeNa (a Japanese social games creator), to bring the series to phones starting sometime later this year.

The new game will be called Professor Layton Royale -- a mashup of Layton and DeNa's own Kaito Royale mobile series. Instead of taking the traditional puzzle-solving role of previous games, you'll play as a detective, thief, or citizen in what is being called a "reasoning RPG."

But for any hardcore Layton fans out there, the chances of this coming to the West are pretty much nonexistent. After all, we're still waiting to catch up to Japan in the regular series!
