E3: TrackMania 2 This November

Ubisoft has announced that TrackMania 2 Canyon, the first entry in the proposed ManiaPlanet series of community-powered games and the fourth game in the TrackMania series, will be with us this November.

The game demo on show at the press conference featured only in-game footage and community-generated content. It also looked like Hot Wheels: The Movie. This is a good thing.

The new game follows its predecessors' formula: the same combination of single player challenges, multiplayer racing and the ability to easily create and share your own tracks with the world. Multiplayer apparently now supports up to 200 players, making for significantly larger-scale challenges than last entry in the series TrackMania United Forever.

A beta for TrackMania 2 will be starting later this summer, and the game will be out in November. Follow-up titles ShootMania and QuestMania will follow at an as-yet undisclosed time in the future.
