The return of classic alien-hunting franchise XCOM is set to take place in March of next year on PC, PS3 and 360.
2K Games announced today that the return of the XCOM series will be on March 6 next year. The game will be available for PC, PS3 and 360.
The game raised controversy when it was originally revealed to be a first-person tactical shooter as opposed to the traditional turn-based strategy formula of the first three games. (Purist fans of the series try not to think too much about X-Com Interceptor and X-Com Enforcer.)
Set in the 1950s and casting players in the role of Special Agent William Carter, players will battle the alien menace, capture their technology and turn it against them. Although the game is of a markedly different genre to its predecessors, the theme of aliens being an "invisible menace" corrupting humanity from within is present and correct. Check out the trailer (and idly wonder to yourself how much it looks a bit like a mod for BioShock) on the official website.
If all this is a bit sacrilegious, however, don't forget the original games are all available from Steam.
