Official Olympics Game Announced

PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers will be able to get their Olympic on next year with the official London 2012 Olympics game, catchily (well, informatively) titled London 2012? - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games.

Sega hasn't released many details on the game as yet, apart from the fact that it will feature 30 events and online leaderboard support. The game is under development by Sega Studios Australia, formerly known as the Australian arm of Total War developer The Creative Assembly. The Brisbane-based studio apparently boasts a "state of the art motion capture facility," and we know how much sports game developers enjoy their motion capture.

"London 2012 looks set to be our best ever release in the Olympic Games simulation franchise in terms of both sales and number and quality of events," said Raymond Goldsmith, chairman and CEO of International Sports Multimedia, the exclusive licensee of the International Olympic Committee. "We are delighted to be working once again with Sega to ensure we will achieve this historic milestone."

Certainly beats the seven events available in 1992's Olympic Gold, pictured above, and offers a more "serious" experience than the Wii and 3DS' Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, which we previewed recently.
