Handheld gaming system overtakes Sony PS2

The Nintendo DS has overtaken the Playstation 2 to become the best-selling games console of all time.

According to market research company GfK-ChartTrack, by week 47 of this year, the Nintendo console had sold 10.05 million units, compared to sales Sony's PS2, which had sold 10.02 million units.

The Nintendo DS hit the UK in March 2005, while the PS2 was launched in November 2000. Based on the DS figures, 5,700 consoles are sold per day, with one in six Brits owning one.
