Yesterday, a seemingly plausible rumor circulated that Gearbox was about to announce Borderlands 2. Gearbox's Randy Pitchford did, however tweet that he had "long maintained that [Gearbox] would do more with Borderlands" and that "shoddy journalism is not an announcement" after a number of outlets reported on the story.
But what is this we see in our big pile of press releases today? "2K Games and Gearbox Software Announce Borderlands 2 in Development." Aha!
Apparently the new "extravasplosive" game will arrive on Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC "during Take-Two's fiscal year 2013 beginning on April 1, 2012." That's rather non-specific, but so are the details on the game itself.
Players can look forward to "all new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story." Apparently the game combines "invention and evolution" and will see players adventuring across unexplored new areas of Pandora, the setting for the first game.
Attendees at Gamescom later this month will be able to get a first look at the game, and following this PAX Prime attendees will also be able to sneak a peek at booth #3417 at the end of the month.
The official website is up and running now for your viewing pleasure.
