EA to release The Sims 3 in 2009

Third instalment features more realistic graphics

The third instalment of Electronic Arts' Sim series will hit the market next year, with EA claiming the title will feature more realistic graphics, enhanced customisation of in-game items, and a larger 'living neighbourhood' to explore.

"In The Sims 3, Sims can go beyond the boundaries of their home lot, and immerse themselves in an open, living neighbourhood, interacting with other Sims using our new deeper personality system," said Rod Humble, head of Sims Studio. Additional details were lacking in the announcement, though a 2009 release on PC was confirmed.

The Sims is the third best-selling video game series in history with nearly 100 million combined copies sold; behind both Mario and Pokemon, though ahead of Grand Theft Auto, Madden, and Zelda.
