Microsoft hails Xbox 360 'victory' over PS3

Microsoft and Sony dispute PlayStation 3 sales

Microsoft Yesterday claimed that in the previous week its Xbox 360 games console had outsold the PlayStation 3 by a ratio of 2:1 in the US. The week of Thanksgiving is generally considered an important pointer to the Christmas season.

Microsoft said it based the US sales numbers on: "Estimates from top retailers." Sony disputes the figures, saying they are: "way off".

"It's (Sony Computer Entertainment America) policy not to disclose our unit sales numbers until NPD numbers are officially released which will be December 13," a Sony official said on Thursday."However, I can assure you that Microsoft's estimates of our PS3 unit sales numbers are way off, and they did not outsell PS3 2:1 during Black Friday week."

Sony did not release unit sales numbers, but last week reported a 245 percent increase in PS3 sales thanks to its newly reduced and more attractive $399 (about £200) price in the US.
