Nintendo turns Wii remote into light sabre

Star Wars game launching on Wii next year

LucasArts is to release a Star Wars game for Nintendo's Wii which lets players battle friends by using the handheld Wii Remote as a lightsaber.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - already announced for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 (PS3), Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable (PSP), and PlayStation 2 (PS2) - is due for release for the Nintendo Wii in spring 2008. The game, which will support both the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk - is set between Episode III and Episode IV and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy.

"The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life," said LucasArts president Jim Ward in a statement. "We've worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique."
