Nintendo working on hard drive alternative for Wii

Exec says Wii storage will be better than hard drive

Nintendo has revealed it's working on a Nintendo Wii storage solution, claiming it'll be "better than" a traditional hard drive.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in an interview with a Latin American publication that rumours of a Wii hard drive were off the mark, but said the company was developing something better.

Wired's Chris Kohler notes that the best solution would be to "just integrate the SD card reader that's already in the Wii into the console's available storage, treating it as if it were a seamless extension of the flash memory inside each console".

It would be an inexpensive fix, and would surely be welcomed by the many Wii owners who no doubt purchased large SD cards already.

Additionally, in that same interview, Nintendo development guru Shigeru Miyamoto reconfirmed that the slew of Nintendo first party Wii accessories is officially over.
