PS2 is world's most popular console

Neilsen says older generation consoles are king

A new study reveals that Sony’s PlayStation 2 (PS2) remains the world’s most popular and most widely played console, despite the launch of the PS3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360.

Research firm Neilsen said the older generation PS2, Xbox, and GameCube have sold a combined total of more than 160 million units worldwide. By comparison Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 have sold a combined 23 million units worldwide.

Nielsen, which sampled more than 30,000 individuals, also found that Nintendo Wii households typically earn more than $100,000 a year, this despite the console's inexpensive $250 price.
