Tony Hawk helps Activision overtake EA

Report says Activision is world's top publisher

The LA Times says Activision has overtaken Electronic Arts (EA) to become the world's largest video game maker following the success of the Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty and Spider-Man games.

The achievement could be short-lived, however, as EA readies several heavy hitting games to directly compete with Activision's lucrative batch of titles. Games like Madden, Medal of Honor: Airborne, Skate, and Rock Band will go head-to-head against games like Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and Guitar Hero III with the former games possibly pushing EA back on top by the end of the year.

Activision claims it’s not worried, though. "We're well situated to win," a company representative confidently said noting the several awards its games have won over the years most recently including Call of Duty 4 at this year's E3.
