Amazon has launched the next generation of its Kindle e-book reader, with an enhanced display, faster navigation, and an entirely redesigned chassis.

Plus, the new Kindle, which is being referred to as the 'Kindle 3' but Amazon says will remain simply 'Kindle', will be available to buy in the UK from launch. The cheapest model will cost £109 on this side of the Atlantic.

Among the claimed improvements in the Amazon Kindle 3 are an enhanced display, faster navigation, and an entirely redesigned chassis.

The new Kindle also weighs less than its predecessor. Amazon says it's 15 percent lighter and 21 percent smaller than the second generation model.

Designed to be transported in a bag, the Kindle 3 is only 8.5mm thick.
