BlackBerry tablet to rival Apple iPad?

7in system likely to feature Marvell processor

RIM is thought to be preparing to unveil a BlackBerry tablet that will rival Apple's iPad, but include support for Flash.

Ashok Kumar, an analyst and managing director at Rodman & Renshaw, last week revealed he had seen a 7in tablet PC the smartphone manufacturer was working on.

Kumar said the tablet would feature a processor from Marvell, which is already working with OLPC, as well as front- and rear-facing cameras, 1080p video playback and 3D graphics.

RIM hopes to rival Apple's iPad with a BlackBerry tablet

"Research in Motion is trying to pull forward the launch of the 7in touchscreen tablet from early next year to year end...with a marginal point of differentiation being the front- and back-facing cameras for videoconferencing," Kumar said in a research document.

While RIM declined to comment on the rumours, Beta News claims it has spoken to a source close to RIM who said Kumar's comments were accurate.
