Apple hits 3 million iPad sales mark

Mac tablet to hit 9 more countries next month

Apple has revealed it has sold three million iPads in just under three months.

The tablet PC was launched in the US at the beginning of April. However, Brits had to wait until the end of May to get their hands on the device after its launch was delayed by a month due to "surprisingly strong" US demand.

"People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

"We're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month."

Apple said the iPad will run most of the 225,000 apps already available in the App Store. These include 11,000 new apps created specifically to take advantage of the device’s touchscreen.

The iPad is on sale at Apple Stores across the UK, as well as Currys, Dixons and PC World outlets following a deal signed by DSGi that gives the electronics retailers a 60-day head start over competing vendors.

As well as the UK and the US, Apple iPad is also available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain and Switzerland. Apple said the device will be available in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year.

Apple revealed at the start of the month it had sold more than two million iPads in two months.
