October 2007's coolest gadgets revealed

3mm thick TVs and HD video recorders

Every year in October, Japan's largest electronics show, Ceatec, showcases all that's new and upcoming from the world's sharpest consumer electronics vendors. Ceatec 2007 brought us some world-first technologies, including a 3mm thick TV, a laptop with super-charged graphics processing and some new high-definition video recorders.

Here are our picks from Ceatec and other new gadgets from the past month:

Sony Video Walkman with TV

Sony is adding mobile digital TV viewing and recording to the video Walkman it sells in Japan. The "OneSeg" system, as it is marketed, has proved a popular addition to many portable gadgets and can now be found on many high-end mobile phones, laptop PCs, car navigation systems and even electronic dictionaries.

The only difference between the three new Walkman devices with TV is their memory capacity. The NW-A916 has 4GB of memory, the NW-A918 has 8GB and the NW-A919 16GB. Compared to the most recent players the screen size has been increased to 2.4in from 2in. They'll go on sale in November in Japan only. The NW-A916 will cost about ¥30,000 (£130), the NW-A918 ¥35,000 and the NW-A919 ¥45,000.
