The mantra among IT staffers at Grant Thornton is "work hard, play hard." Whether it's a Nerf gun battle on one of the floors at its IT headquarters in Chicago, or "Cake Wars," where divisions try to outdo one another with elaborately decorated cakes after quarterly meetings, the nearly 200 IT employees foster an energetic and supportive work environment.
"Leadership goes out of their way to make sure we all feel appreciated and recognized for a job well done," says Dana Lyons, an IT administrative assistant.
On the career development front, Grant Thornton believes in opportunities for companywide exposure and promotion. For instance, the IT support group has groomed 15 subject matter expert teams to help resolve issues throughout the company.
"You are given so many opportunities here," says Melissa Hunt, director of technology support in the Dallas office. "If you want to be involved, just raise your hand!"
