Dare to be Digital 2013 student game design competition -- call for entries

The Dare to be Digital 2013 computer game design competition for students opens today, which could lead to entrants winning a BAFTA.

Run by the University of Abertay Dundee, Dare to be Digital sees hundreds of students every year competing to become one of 15 teams to build a working game prototype in just nine weeks.

The games then go on show to the public and to industry experts in Dundee in August, with three winning teams picked to compete for the BAFTA 'Ones to Watch' award.

The last BAFTA 'Ones to Watch' award went to Swallowtail Games for Tick Tock Toys, a family-friendly puzzle game for iPad and iPhone. Since the win, the team have set up a company to finish the game and commercially release it, and is preparing to launch Tick Tock Toys before the next BAFTA Video Games Awards in March.

Competitors from Dare to be Digital 2012 will compete in March for the next 'Ones to Watch' award, with Starcrossed, Pixel Story and Project Thanatos up for the prize.

Applications close on April 9.
