Rackspace creates 350 UK jobs

Technology, business, sales and customer service roles on offer

Rackspace is looking to recruit 350 people this year to support growing demand for its cloud services in the UK.

The hosting company is looking for graduates and experienced professionals to fill technology roles, as well as positions in business development, customer services and sales.

Technology roles that are available include infrastructure and solutions architects, Linux and Windows Engineers and NAS (Network-attached storage) engineers.

The jobs will be based at its UK office locations in Slough and Hayes.

In addition, Rackspace said that it was talking to a number of universities about introducing specific cloud computing platform training onto the curriculum.

It follows on from HP's launch of the HP Institute programme yesterday, which aims to improve students' technical skills and make them ready for the workplace on graduation.

Taylor Rhodes, managing director of Rackspace, said: "We're committed to hiring employees that have a high level of technical skill to fill our pure information technology roles.

"Currently, however, some of these much sought-after roles have been open for longer than we would expect, despite us receiving as many as 200 applicants every month. Many candidates come to us with good IT degrees; however they have inadequate levels of knowledge of core operating systems and often no experience of working with cloud technology. There is a cloud skills shortage and Rackspace aims to address the challenge that lies ahead."
