Accenture MD wins top women in tech award

BT Global Services’ Emer Timmons also honoured

An Accenture managing director, Liv Sandbaek, has won the Science and Technology award at the CBI and Real Business' 2011 First Women Awards.

Sandbaek, who is MD of Accenture’s strategic industrialisation programme, is one of the most senior woman at Accenture, and is the first female member of the company’s technology leadership team.

She was recognised for her leadership skills and innovative approach to the industry, and for having made an "outstanding" contribution to the attraction, retention and progression of women around the world. In the UK, she heads the Accenture Women's network of more than 3,000 women, and takes part in the government's Girls in IT campaign to encourage more females into the industry.

In her category, she beat competition from people like Debra Charles, managing director of smart-ticketing business Novacroft, which includes Transport for London among its clients. Novacroft was the first company to introduce the ability to produce cards the same day applications are processed online.

Sandbaek was one of 11 women recognised at the awards, which honours women whose achievements open opportunities for others, across a range of sectors.

BT Global Services' president, Emer Timmons, was also crowned a winner in the businesses services category. She is the division's first female president, and in the last 12 months, has grown the UK business by 25 percent through major customer wins, such as UBS and Nationwide.
