Sky has revealed it has broadcast a number of TV programs in 3D as part of a trial.
Brian Lenz, head of product design and innovation at Sky, said: We're just exploring right now, but the next step is going to be to find out whether 3DTV is something people are going to be interested in".
Two side-by-side cameras were used to film a number of sporting events. Sky then used new technology to merge the images and broadcast them together on one screen at the same time. Wearing polarised glasses will ensure viewers can see the action in 3D.
The broadcaster said it will develop the project over the next few years, giving TV manufacturers the chance make screens capable of handling the content cheaper and more widely available.
