A technology that allows movies to be downloaded and burned to blank DVDs using the same content-protection system as commercial discs has received official approval.

News: Toshiba suppresses 51GB HD DVD rumours
A three-layer HD DVD disc with enough room for about 7 hours of high-definition video is still under development and hasn't been submitted for approval to the DVD Forum, the standard's governing body, despite reports to the contrary, according to Toshiba.

News: iTunes movies gets new partner
IFC Entertainment has become the latest film producer to sign a deal with Apple in the US, announcing that it’s offering independent films for sale and download through Apple's iTunes Store. The company is including all of its 2007 Independent Spirit Award nominees.

News: iTunes gets new movie partner
Lionsgate is the newest movie studio to offer movies for purchase and download via Apple's iTunes Store. The two companies have announced a distribution deal that will see the iTunes Store expand its catalogue of online movies in the US by more than 150 titles, including hits like Terminator 2.
