News: AACS takes on HD-DVD DRM key bloggers
The AACS (Advanced Access Content System) copy-protection body has threatened legal action against bloggers who posted to the web a software key that unlocks the DRM (digital rights management) encryption on some HD-DVDs. The row erupted after Digg removed from its site stories featuring the leaked key.

News: Hitachi ships UK's first single 1TB hard drive
Hitachi today announced the first 1TB (one terrabyte) capacity single internal hard drive available to all UK consumers. The Deskstar 7K1000 first shipped in March 2007, and is now available through PCWorld.co.uk and PC World stores throughout the UK for £249.

Sony is releasing a camera for its PlayStation Portable (PSP) console in the UK later this month.

News: Google hits back at Viacom's YouTube claims
Google yesterday rejected a claim that it enables copyright infringement on YouTube.com. This was Google's first response to entertainment behemoth Viacom's $1bn lawsuit, which was filed in March.

News: BBC iPlayer coming this year
The BBC has announced the forthcoming release of an on-demand service called iPlayer that will enable computer users to view BBC television shows after they're broadcast. BBC iPlayer is Windows-only, though the company has been asked by the organisation that oversees it to make iPlayer Mac-compatible.

News: ITV boss Grade calls for free HDTV
ITV's Michael Grade has warned that most UK viewers will not be able to receive HDTV (high-definition TV) when British TV goes digital in 2012. He's concerned that only cable and satellite stations will be able to afford HD bandwidth.

Nintendo’s Wii was the most popular next-gen games console in the US in March selling 259,000 units, results from market research firm NPD show.

Sony has released a PlayStation 3 (PS3) update allowing PS3 owners to download and play PS1 software on the new console. Downloadable PS1 software compatible with the PS3 will be available soon from the PlayStation Store.

News: HD-DVD players reach 100,000 sales mark
The North American HD DVD Promotional Group has claimed a milestone: it said that 100,000 HD DVD players have been sold since the introduction of the format to the North American market a year ago. That figure doesn't include HD DVD drives in PCs or ones sold as Xbox 360 accessories, either.
