Blu-ray already outselling HD DVD

Sony's PlayStation 3 credited for uplift

Blu-ray Disc is outselling HD-DVD units by more than 2 to 1, according to figures from http://www.videoscan.com.

In the week ending 7 January, 100 Blu-ray Disc titles were sold for every 47.14 HD-DVDs. The following week the gap between the two had increased, with 100 Blu-ray Disc titles being sold for every 38.36 HD-DVD units. The most popular Blu-ray Discs were Crank and Black Hawk Down, while Mission Impossible III and Batman Begins were the pick of the HD-DVD films.

The majority of the Blu-ray sales are thought to be from those who own a PlayStation 3, which comes with a high-definition Blu-ray drive. In future, it’s expected that the sales figures for each formats will be impacted by the release of different software titles for each format.
