BBC HD makes way for BBC Two HD channel

BBC Two HD is simulcast of regular BBC Two

The BBC has today replaced its HD channel with BBC Two HD.

BBC's HD channel has been switched off to make way for BBC Two HD which went live this morning at 6am. The new channel will simply take its predecessor's place and sit alongside BBC One HD for all digital television platforms. See also: TalkTalk YouView review.

Janice Hadlow, Controller of BBC Two, says: "BBC One HD has already proved to be highly valued by our audiences and I'm delighted that we're able to follow this with the launch of BBC Two in HD."

"The launch of BBC Two HD will allow us to showcase more of our programmes at their very best – helping to highlight our commitment to high quality, engaging and ambitious programmes on BBC Two."

The main change is that while BBC HD showed highlights of HD programming, BBC Two HD will be a simulcast of whatever is showing on regular BBC Two. Read: 2TB Sky+HD box review

During the switchover the BBC showed its iconic test cards for a few hours for the last time. They are being retired after 79 years of use since engineers can sort out issues with little problem now.

Since the channel is a direct replacement viewers don't need to do anything special but if you can't see it preform a retune. "In most cases, BBC Two HD will use the same channel number as previously used for BBC HD." said the beeb.

However, Sky viewers will see the channel move to 142 so its sits next to BBC One HD. BBC Two HD is on channel 187 for Virgin Media, 109 for Freesat HD and 852 for BT Vision+ customers respectively.
