Cédric de Smedt's striking animated music video for Max Cooper's hypnotic Pleasures

Cédric de Smedt has created a striking animated music video (above) for British electronica artist Max Cooper's hypnotic new track Pleasures, which was created in collaboration with the Canadian band Braids.

Pleasures is taken from Max's new EP Conditions One, which is the first in a series of releases based around the human conditions - something that taps into his previous career as a genetics researcher.

"When I started to work on this project, Max Cooper only gave me a free hand," says Cédric,"[saying only that it] should be something beautiful and pleasant. It made sense for me to work on a mysterious and disconcerting world, since it's the kind of atmosphere I tend to approach as an illustrator.

All of the elements in the music video is hand-made. Each was scanned, then animated using video-editing software.

"The video arrives at its meaning over the seconds," says Cédric. "It is something that decodes, a story that builds and becomes coherent."

Cédric says that being passionate about biology is something he has in common with Max.

"His perception of human condition - [which is a] recurrent element in my work - encounters mine [in this music video]. This video is a meeting between two artistic visions, an audiovisual project where human being becomes a very important part, the third actor of this encounter."
